Invitation to a Holy Lent

Lent is a season where we are invited, in the name of the Church, to self-examination and repentance. This year during Lent, we will look for ways each day that we can make room for God in echoing our baptismal vows.

Continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers:

  • Pray the Parish – Pray daily for other members of the Congregation
  • Wednesday Night Service – Come to the quiet of the sanctuary at 7:00pm to worship
  • Saturday Morning Prayer – Join others for online prayer on Saturdays at 8:30am
  • Lent Madness – Learn about some saints who have gone before us through a fun voting bracket. Handouts in back of church and voting through lentmadness.org.

Persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord:

  • The Daily Office – Commit to personal Morning, Noon, and/or Evening Prayer
  • Retreat – Plan to join us for a half-day retreat on Saturday, March 21 in the Rectory.

Proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ:

  • Read the Gospels – Read the Good News so you can tell your story (click to download the Reading Plan)
  • Join the Choir – Spread the good news in song.

Seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself:

  • Volunteer at Toni’s – Love your neighbor through service in the Kitchen or Closet. Email Jennifer Pine at hello@toniskitchen.org to register.
  • Serve in Church – Join us as a reader, usher, acolyte, or member of the Altar Guild. Email the church office at info@slechurch.org to be involved.

Strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being:

  • Be heard at Delaney Hall – Join others from the Diocese in standing up for immigrants’ rights
  • Lenten Meditations – subscribe to receive daily meditations from Episcopal Relief and Development on their website.
