We are most fortunate to have The Rev. Canon C. K. Robertson joining us on April 10 to discuss his recently published The Book of Common\u00a0<\/i>Prayer: A Spiritual Treasure Chest<\/i>.\u00a0 In this unique book, Canon Robertson offers fascinating insights into the history and heritage of the BCP, while opening its treasures to those seeking to deepen their life of prayer, build stronger relationships, and make a difference in the world.\u00a0 He organizes his selections by theme \u2013 such as \u201cBlessings in Times of Joy and Pain,\u201d \u201cCalled to Serve\u201d and \u201cPraise and Petition.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Rev. Canon C. K. Robertson, DD, PhD, is Canon to the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, a noted scholar in the worldwide Anglican Communion, and Distinguished Visiting Professor at the General Theological Seminary in New York City. \u00a0Dr. Robertson has served on the Governing Board of the National Council of Churches, and has published many books and articles including: \u00a0A Dangerous Dozen: 12 Christians Who Threatened the Status Quo but Taught Us to Live Like Jesus <\/em>(SkyLight Paths). He holds a Ph.D. from Durham University in England,\u00a0a Fellowship from the Episcopal Church Foundation, and a D.D. honoris causa<\/i> from General Theological Seminary. Robertson has also worked extensively with the U.S. Depts. of Education, Labor, and State, the Council on Foreign Relations, and Hollywood studios and guilds.<\/p>\n

The Book of Common Prayer was first composed in 1549 by Thomas Cranmer, Henry VIII\u2019s Archbishop of Canterbury.\u00a0 The BCP, alongside Shakespeare\u2019s works and the King James Bible, helped shape the English language.\u00a0 Today almost eighty million Anglican Christians throughout the world use the BCP in public worship.\u00a0 Countless people \u2013 Anglican and otherwise \u2013 use it in their private devotional life.<\/p>\n
