Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’ John 8:12

Confirmation Class meets on the 2nd Sunday of the Month from 12-2pm. Youth in grades 10 – 12 are invited to join this exploration of the Episcopal faith with Reverend Mennell in the Rectory.

Attention! All parents with children in their Sophomore and Junior year of High School, we are beginning Confirmation Classes. We understand that not all students will be interested in Confirmation at this time, but we would like to invite all to join us (questions, doubts, and all) on our journey of exploration. The Diocese of Newark has set forth guidelines for those seeking Confirmation in the Church. These guidelines suggest 40 hours of preparation. We will be preparing students for Confirmation in the Spring of 2015.  This class will be composed of current High School Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors. Below you will find each of the requirements and how we will be meeting them. By outlining the requirements now, we hope to allow everyone  to find a way to  adapt their personal calender to the requirements of the preparation program. We would appreciate an indication of your interest in confirmation at his time.  If you have any questions, please contact  Kathy DeWalt.

St. Luke’s has many Outreach Programs throughout the year.  Each confirmand will be expected to document 8-10 hours of community service. The Confirmation class as a group may choose an outreach project, or they may explore other opportunities throughout the church.
 Meal with the Vestry

Confirmands will be invited to share a meal and attend part of a vestry meeting towards the end of their preparation time. This is an important part of learning how the business of the church is dealt with on a regular basis.

Adult Ministry Mentorship
We invite each confirmand to explore an adult ministry in the church.
We will assist each student to connect with a ministry within the church they find interesting.  They may join a committee, the Senior Choir, Teach Sunday School, Work with the Flower or Altar Guild. Over the course of the next 18 months they should spend 6 hours exploring one or more ministries.
Holy Week Services
All confirmands are to attend the Easter Vigil and one other Holy Week Service. Attendance at feast days is a Diocese requirement.

Meeting with John

In the final months of preparations, a meeting will be held with the Rector to review and put into perspective all of the experiences of the confirmation experience.
Confirmation Retreat
In the spring of 2015 we will attend a Diocese Confirmation Retreat to review all material and meet with the Bishop.  This is a Friday night to Saturday afternoon event and is required by the Diocese.
