Confirmation

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’ ” – John 8:12

Confirmation Class meets on the 2nd Sunday of the Month from 12Noon-2:00pm. Youth in grades 10 – 12 are invited to join this exploration of the Episcopal faith with the Rev. John A. Mennell and Kathy DeWalt in the Rectory.

All parents with children in their sophomore and junior years of high school, please have your children join our Confirmation Class (questions, doubts, and all!) as we embark on a journey of exploration together. The Diocese of Newark has set forth guidelines for those seeking Confirmation in the Episcopal Church. These guidelines suggest 40 hours of preparation. We prepare students for Confirmation each Spring, and this class will be composed of current high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. We’ve have outlined the course below in hopes that this framework allows everyone insight into the value of the course and the commitment required. Please indicate your interest in Confirmation by contacting Kathy DeWalt.

Outreach
St. Luke’s has many outreach programs throughout the year.  Each Confirmand will be expected to document 5-10 hours of community service. The Confirmation class as a group may choose an outreach project, or they may explore other opportunities throughout the church.

Adult Ministry Mentorship
We invite each Confirmand to explore an adult ministry in the church. We encourage each student to engage with a ministry within the church they find interesting. They may join a committee, the Senior Choir, teach Church School, or work with the Flower or Altar Guild. Over the course of  eight months, they should spend six hours exploring one or more ministries.

Holy Week Services
All confirmands are to encouraged to attend Holy Week services. Attendance at feast days is a Diocesan requirement.

Confirmation Retreat
In the spring, Confirmands attend a Diocese Confirmation Retreat to review all material and meet with the Bishop. This full-day event (9:00am – 3:00pm) is required by the Diocese.
