You’re invited to participate in licensed Eucharistic Visitor Training. At St. Luke’s all are encouraged to consider this training as a way to participate in the community. The Episcopal Diocese of Newark will hold annual training for licensed Eucharistic Visitors at Grace Church in Nutley, 200 Highfield Lane, Nutley, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. starting May 5. Attendance at each class is required; classes will be held May 5, 12, 26 and June 2.
Sec. 7. A Eucharistic Visitor is a lay person authorized to take the Consecrated Elements in a timely manner following a Celebration of Holy Eucharist to members of the congregation who, by reason of illness or infirmity, were unable to be present at the Celebration. A Eucharistic Visitor should normally act under the direction of a Deacon, if any, or otherwise, the Member of the Clergy or other leader exercising oversight of the congregation or other community of faith. Topics will include personal preparation for a home visit, administering and care of the Sacrament, and communication skills. Trainees make a supervised home visit between the 2nd and 4th classes. Classes will be taught by the Rev. Audrey Hasselbrook and the Rev. Pamela Bakal.
Please note that although all are welcome to participate in this course, your rector/vicar /priest-in-charge must request licensure and the Bishop issues the license. Please speak to your rector/vicar/priest-in-charge before signing up for the training.
